FLAC is a volunteer-led organisation that provides free, confidential legal advice to the public. They operate clinics across Ireland, usually in Citizens Information Centres, and cover areas including employment law, family law, debt, housing, and social welfare. Appointments are limited — check flac.ie for your nearest clinic.
The Legal Aid Board provides solicitor services to people who cannot afford to pay. It is means-tested — you must satisfy a financial eligibility test. Legal aid covers civil matters (family law, debt, immigration) but not criminal cases in general (criminal legal aid is a separate scheme).
Citizens Information Centres provide free, confidential, impartial information on a huge range of rights and entitlements. They are an excellent first point of contact for any query about your rights in Ireland — employment, housing, social welfare, immigration, consumer rights, and much more. Find your nearest centre at citizensinformation.ie.
If your employment rights are being violated, the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) provides free adjudication services. You can submit a complaint online at workplacerelations.ie. The WRC covers disputes about pay, working hours, dismissal, discrimination, and more. You do not need a solicitor to bring a case.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) enforces consumer rights in Ireland. If you've been sold faulty goods, received poor service, or been treated unfairly by a business, the CCPC can advise you on your rights. The Small Claims Court allows you to take a claim for up to €2,000 without a solicitor, for a fee of €25.
