Key takeaway
A guide to finding mosques, prayer times, halal food, and Islamic community resources in Ireland.
The Muslim community in Ireland
Ireland is home to a growing Muslim community — approximately 80,000–100,000 Muslims according to recent census data, making Islam the second-largest religion in the country. The community is diverse, including long-established Irish Muslim families, students, professionals from South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and more recent arrivals from conflict zones.
Main mosques and Islamic centres
Dublin:
- Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (Roebuck Road, Clonskeagh) — the largest mosque in Ireland, with capacity for 1,200 worshippers. Includes an Islamic school, library, halal shop, and conference facilities. Friday Jumu'ah prayers with multiple sessions.
- Mosque on the South Circular Road (163 South Circular Road, Portobello) — one of Dublin's oldest established mosques, centrally located
- Blanchardstown Islamic Centre — serves the large Muslim community in west Dublin
Cork: Islamic Cultural Society of Ireland Cork Mosque (on Lucey Quay)
Galway: Galway Islamic Cultural Centre
Limerick: Limerick Islamic Centre
Finding prayer times
The Islamic Cultural Centre website (islamireland.ie) publishes accurate prayer times adjusted for Irish latitude, which can differ significantly from prayer time apps calibrated for other regions. Many mosques also post prayer times on their Facebook pages.
Halal food in Ireland
Halal butchers and shops are available in Dublin city centre, Parnell Street, and areas with larger Muslim communities. The Halal Food Authority (HFA) certifies products in Ireland — look for the HFA logo. Several major supermarkets (particularly Tesco) stock HFA-certified products. The Islamic Cultural Centre has its own halal shop.
Community resources
The Irish Council of Imams provides religious guidance and community support. Muslims in Ireland (muslimsinireland.ie) is a community directory. The Ireland Muslim Brotherhood and various WhatsApp community groups connect the community locally — ask at your nearest mosque for access.
